Education in Emergencies
Education
COVID-19 HAD A CATASTROPHIC EFFECT ON EDUCATION ACROSS THE WORLD. A STAGGERING 94% OF CHILDREN WERE FORCED TO MISS SCHOOL OVER THE COURSE OF 2020.
It became incredibly crucial for educational facilities to reopen safely, so children could resume their studies.
Naza was determined to help children in the most vulnerable areas to get back to school, knowing that further delays would mean that many young girls would not be allowed back. Girls without an education are six times more likely to become child brides, and it was unbearable to think of the promising futures that could be jeopardised.
NAZA MADE A DONATION THAT ENSURED 5,600 GIRLS IN THE BORNO STATE, NIGERIA, COULD SAFELY RETURN TO SCHOOL.
Yerwa Government Girls Secondary School is a boarding school for displaced children, for many of whom the school environment is the only source of psychosocial support. Prior to the renovation, the classrooms were dilapidated and the windows broken, and the accommodation had no electricity. Students were forced to study in the dark. Naza supported UNICEF to transform the school and welcome girls back. The principal believes this is a project that will speak for generations.
